Loftesnes – the Bridge via Sogndalsfjorden Fjord
Scope of works under this contract consists in construction of bridge structure and roundabout near the Sogndal locality within the route Rv 5. The other items of the contract include demolition of the existing bridge erected in 1954.
The newly-constructed bridge crossing the Sognefjorden fjord will be 194 meter long. Its structure requires constructing two piers situated in the fjord waters and founded on driven piles of 1200 mm diameter and length up to 70 m.
Bearing structure of the bridge consists in steel structure combined with reinforced concrete slab. The main span was designed in a form of 84m steel arch with a slab suspended with 72 FLC Ø45 cables.
The entire architectural design of the bridge is visually attractive and its additionally designed effect lighting will certainly make it a pride of the region.
We should note that the steel structure will be delivered by sea in three parts (2 end spans and arch) and assembled with the use of crane vessel of 90 tonnes bearing capacity. The existing bridge will be demolished upon opening of the new structure.
